Love | Hope | Family | Community

About the show

Our mission is to reach everyone around us with the hope of Christ. We are a church founded on building strong families focused on impacting our community.

We want to show and receive God’s love to those around us, and we live that out practically everyday. We strive to bring hope by meeting physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of everyone we come in contact with. We love fiercely—like a family, because everyone is included and our Father loves us all. We’re building biblical community by seeking God’s Word, believing in His promises, and applying what we learn everyday.

Our hope is that you and your family find a home with us where you can learn, grow, live, and thrive in Christ Jesus. We’re a multi-generational church with something to offer everyone in your family. Join us for a Sunday morning worship service, and take the next step in your journey with us!

  • My First & Best | Principles Of Biblical Generosity

    Episode  |  May 28th, 2023  |  44 mins 58 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon

We study scripture again this week to pull out principles of generosity as we give to God our first and best. Jesus’ life is the model for generosity that we should follow in our own lives and God has richly provided us with everything we need for our enjoyment. As we save, we should remember that treasure in heaven is worth more and better than any treasure on earth, and our primary source of security and significance is God, not money.
Is God getting your first and best? Which kingdom does your money point to? Have you surrendered all your resources to Jesus and are you listening to the Holy Spirit? As always, we’d love to connect with you and answer any questions you’ve got, so reach out. You can take the next step in your faith journey by visiting burnthickory.com/next.

  • Giving My First & Best

baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon

Why is it so uncomfortable to talk about money in the church? Well, over the years, it’s been a topic that has been abused by some pastors and most people are not living in obedience to our calling that God has put on us as Christians to give. Today, we dive into scripture to see why Jesus spoke so often about money, and what God actually asks of his followers in generosity. Everything belongs to the Lord in the first place, and the things we give to show what we truly love. This sermon covers several principles that will help us understand why and how to be generous to glorify God.

  • The Faithful

    Episode  |  May 14th, 2023  |  39 mins 25 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon

We celebrate mothers and mom figures today on this special day, and through scripture, we learn about faithfulness. Proverbs 31 dives into what a faithful and noble wife and mother looks like, her value and purpose in life, the sacrifice she makes for her family. We see that the faithful take action and serve their families and others and speaks truth while loving sacrificially. These are not just the marks of a good mother, but also a good Christian. We are all called to serve our family and serve others. We are to be servants in example of Jesus, who came not to be served, but to serve, and give his life as a ransom for many.
Who are you serving? Who are you speaking life-giving truths of Jesus to? How are you loving sacrificially? As always, we’d love to connect with you and answer any questions you might have. You can always reach out or take the next step by visiting burnthickory.com/next

  • Enduring the Seasons

    Episode  |  May 7th, 2023  |  45 mins 13 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon

We celebrate our graduating class of High School Seniors today as Pastor Eli preaches on endurance in life. We learn through this bible study that in order to endure life, we must full surrender to God who has overcome, and we need to surround ourselves with Godly community. Biblical community provides accountability and guidance, collective worship and prayer, and a way to witness to the world. Second Corinthians chapter 4 tells us do not lose heart, for our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that will far outweigh all our troubles here on Earth. So, we should fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on the eternal.
Are you finding true joyful contentment in life? Is the world weighing you down? Have you trusted that Jesus will bring you that joy that will help you endure? As always, we’d love to answer any questions and take time to pray with you. You can always take the next step by visiting burnthickory.com/next.

  • Do Whatever He Tells You to Do

    Episode  |  April 30th, 2023  |  46 mins 4 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon

The foundation of Christian discipleship is obedience, to do whatever Jesus tells us to do. It’s a tough, but powerful lesson we learn as we study scripture today. We aren’t called to do amazing things, but God will do extraordinary things through us because of our obedience. Jesus steps in when it seems like nothing else can help, starts with what we have to offer, and looks for our willingness to obey, even in the absurd. He adds extra to our ordinary and gives blessings that do more than just meet today’s needs. His blessings are long lasting. Jesus promises the best is never yet experienced until he shows up, and we can depend on his promises.
Are you trusting Jesus and obeying him even in the absurd or tough times? Are you looking to his power and not your own? Are you trusting in him as Lord? As always, we’d love to connect with you, answer any questions you’ve got, and take time to pray with you today. You can always take the next step here – burnthickory.com/next.

  • Joyful Believers

    Episode  |  April 23rd, 2023  |  43 mins 28 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon

Joy is one of the most vital and important gages on the dashboard of life. We as followers of Christ, our lives should be filled with joy, but sometimes it seems a struggle to find it amidst our circumstances. Today, as we study scripture, we learn that we will be joy-filled when we recognize sin, worship sincerely and treasure Jesus. When we redirect our confidence in Jesus instead of our own ability and depend on the Holy Spirit, we’ll experience the power of joy. Paul says to the church in Philippi that everything that was gain to me, I have considered a loss because of Christ. More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them as dung, so that I may gain Christ.
Are you struggling to find joy in life? Does sin seem to overwhelm you? Are you trusting in Jesus as savior? If you’ve got questions or want to know more about Jesus, reach out today. • Easter | What did the Resurrection Do?

    Episode  |  April 9th, 2023  |  38 mins 11 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon

We celebrate Easter every year, but what did the resurrection actually accomplish? If we believe that its true, it means that we are redeemed from our sin and Jesus has secured out future. Because of his sacrifice and offering his power we can truly live, to live with hope. We study in Luke that after Jesus was crucified, the tomb was discovered empty. What an amazing fact, that the empty tomb has bought our eternity, the vacancy has bought our victory. We can have hope and life because of Jesus.

  • Hope Over Darkness

    Episode  |  April 2nd, 2023  |  45 mins 19 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon

As we look towards Easter next weekend, we follow along Jesus’ path towards the cross. After his entry into Jerusalem, things turn dark quickly. It’s easy to misdirect our hope like the disciples did. Or to misunderstand hope based on our circumstances. But we learn from scripture that because of Jesus, we have true and redeeming hope that restores us through the cross. 1 Peter 2:24 says “He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.” We have healing because of Jesus’ sacrifice, and we look to celebrate Easter because he has risen, indeed.

  • Freedom From Shame

    Episode  |  March 19th, 2023  |  44 mins 14 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon

This week, we study the bible and discover what God says about dealing with shame. We learn that guilt is the focus on the what, and shame is the focus on the who, and shame comes from feelings of guilt from what we have done. Shame can be brought into our lives by others, but mostly it comes from something about you that you have no control over. By studying Mark chapter 5, we see that shame leads us to become something that God never intended us to be, but we have a way of freedom from shame. If you’re dealing with shame and guild feelings, check out this sermon and learn how God can heal you and you can move on in life through truth.
If you’ve got questions about shame and what to do to be free, we’d love to connect with you and walk you through freedom, so respond in the comments. You can reach out or take the next step in your faith journey by visiting burnthickory.com/next

  • Freedom from the Grip of Anxiety

    Episode  |  March 12th, 2023  |  44 mins 22 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon

This week, we continue to look at what scripture says about our feelings and how we can trust and lean into God’s promises and rely on his character when life gets tough. As we study Matthew chapter 6, we learn that anxiety pushes us to think too little of God and tries to hide how much God thinks of us. Its easy to see what we are devoted to in life, since we tend to worry the most about it, but that worry doesn’t change anything. As we deal with anxiety in life, we have to rely on God’s promises and our faith needs to drive our feelings, not the other way around.
