Brian grew up right here in Marietta, and even attended Marietta High School. From there he attended LaGrange College and graduated with a degree in Christian Education. While at LaGrange College he met a cute little co-ed named Susan and after a year of dating asked her to be his wife, and she said YES! Following LaGrange College he attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas and graduated with his Masters Degree in Religious Education. Brian came to Burnt Hickory Baptist Church after serving churches in Conyers, Georgia and Chattanooga, Tennessee. Brian and Susan have two girls, Abby and Samantha, who are in college.

Today, as we study scripture, we get to hear from our Burnt Hickory Counseling Center founder – Brian Foster. Throughout the Bible, we see a reflection of the types of conflict in man: personal conflict, conflict with others, and cultural conflict. When we face the wrath of God against our ungodliness and unrighteousness, our solution is to turn to God. In Second Corinthians 5, we see that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and all things have become new. We also see that everything visible and physical is always preceded by something invisible and spiritual. Second Chronicles 5 tells us that when Israel was in trouble, they turned to the Lord God and sought Him; He was found by them.

We know that an active prayer life is an essential part of Christian living, and Paul gives us a model prayer to follow and learn from in his letter to the Ephesians. We should pray with humility through gratitude of God’s provision and with confidence in him. We need to seek through prayer the fullness of God’s power and love and pray with great expectations for what He has and is doing. The passage ends with the benediction: now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever.

Do You Want To Be Like Jesus?

We really need to consider what it means to be a follower of Jesus, and to be like him. Jesus was betrayed, doubted, persecuted, had no social life, spent 40 days fasting in prayer, and was crucified. We have to ask ourselves; do we really want to be like Jesus? What we focus on develops in our lives, and if we are relying on the one who has given us life to the fullest, everything else will be added to us. The bible shows us that we shouldn’t be anxious because it weighs us down, but to life by faith, not sight. When we put the truth above our feelings, we are inside of God’s order for our lives.
