Episode | July 28th, 2024 | 40 mins 36 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon
Today we'll take a look at how actively pursuing a life of faith, not just making a statement of faith, allows God to step in when the burdens in our lives or baggage from our past seem to consume us. We’ll explore how creating a new life with Jesus is the only way to have effective change in our lives.
We'll talk about how real faith is shown through our actions, like in the amazing story of the centurion in Matthew 8, where just believing in Jesus brought healing. You'll see how having faith in Jesus can bring real change and hope into your life. We'll also discuss how Jesus makes us alive and saves us by His grace, transforming us with His love and helping us overcome our past to live with purpose. And, we'll see how Jesus connects us to God, allowing us to confidently approach Him and receive mercy and grace every day, along with when we need it most.
Today, you'll learn to rest in Jesus' presence, press towards Him, and share the hope He brings with others. It's a chance to deepen your faith, find peace in God's love, and grow spiritually. For more information, visit www.burnthickory.com. See you there!

The Calling To Worship
Episode | June 9th, 2024 | 51 mins 19 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon
Today, we celebrate our students' return from an amazing mission trip to Kenya. Pastor Carey leads us through scripture as we explore our calling to worship as Christ's followers. God commands our worship, and He is the only one worthy of it. We are to declare His glory among the nations and His marvelous works among the peoples! We are made to worship Him, and it is for our good because it brings our focus back to God’s presence and reminds us of our purpose. As we read in Romans, For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Remember to look back and see where he has been unfailingly faithful and look ahead and know he is able.

baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon
Today, we celebrate senior Sunday with our Radite Students and hear Chip Paul, our Student Pastor, deliver a powerful sermon about chasing God’s presence over our purpose. What does it truly mean to experience God's presence? Through the story of Moses leading the people of Israel, we learn the difference between presence and purpose. In the stillness of His presence, we can find clarity and direction for our purpose. It’s His presence that sets us apart from the rest of the world.
Are you experiencing the presence of God? Are you finding your purpose inside His presence? As always, we’d love to take the time to answer any questions you have about Jesus, so reach out today. Take the next step in your faith journey by visiting burnthickory.com/next. -
DNOW | Conformed Or Transformed?
Episode | November 5th, 2023 | 35 mins 6 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon
We wrap up an amazing Disciple Now Student weekend by hearing from our Kenya Mission Partner, Peter Abungu. He leads us through scripture as we look at the difference between being conformed and transformed. We see that transformation belongs to believers because the unbeliever can’t break the world’s control over them without Christ. Believers are promised that the Spirit who lives in them is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. God’s indwelling Spirit enables us to resist the world’s pressure to conform to its ways.
Our sinful nature wants us to do evil, which is the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what our sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, which causes us to not have the freedom to carry out our good intentions.
As always, if you’ve got questions, we’d love to connect with you, answer the questions you’ve got, and take time to pray with you – so reach out today. Or you can take the next step in your faith journey by visiting burnthickory.com/next. -
Together | In Him & For Him | The Gospel Changes Everything
Episode | July 9th, 2023 | 44 mins 34 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon
We continue in our summer sermon series through Ephesians by looking at chapter 4 this week. We see that in discerning spiritual gifts that God has given us, we need to consider our affinity, ability, and the affirmation from others. Our gifts are the means in which we share the gospel. Because we have been changed through the gospel, we live with renewed minds, hearts, and souls for Christ. Charles Stanley puts it this way – “God's plan for enlarging His kingdom is so simple - one person telling another about the Savior. Yet we're busy and full of excuses. Just remember, someone's eternal destiny is at stake. The joy you'll have when you meet that person in heaven will far exceed any discomfort you felt in sharing the gospel.”

Father's Day 2023
Episode | June 18th, 2023 | 39 mins 11 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon
As we celebrate the fathers and father figures in our lives this week, we get to hear from a panel of dads and pastors give us godly wisdom for shepherding our families. God gives us as dads some scriptural commands to not exasperate our kids, but to bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Earthly fathers should be patterned and reflect God’s divine fatherhood, and the guide for all fathers should be to live in such a way that his children can see what God the Father is like.

Hope Over Darkness
Episode | April 2nd, 2023 | 45 mins 19 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon
As we look towards Easter next weekend, we follow along Jesus’ path towards the cross. After his entry into Jerusalem, things turn dark quickly. It’s easy to misdirect our hope like the disciples did. Or to misunderstand hope based on our circumstances. But we learn from scripture that because of Jesus, we have true and redeeming hope that restores us through the cross. 1 Peter 2:24 says “He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.” We have healing because of Jesus’ sacrifice, and we look to celebrate Easter because he has risen, indeed.

What Matters To God Should Matter To Us
Episode | July 24th, 2022 | 43 mins 9 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon
We explore the scriptures today as we look at what matters to God, and why it should matter to us. Pastor Chip shows us that often we try to make God about us and not about Himself, and when we do that, we don’t understand His character fully. We matter to God, and because of that, we need to stay faithful and act like we have been set free through Christ. We need to understand that we’re not a commodity, but a treasure for God, and our lives should reflect that we are loved.
So, what matters to you? Are you living like you’re set free? If you’ve got questions or need someone to pray with, simply reach out – burnthickory.com/next, we’d love to connect with you. -
No Other Name
Episode | April 3rd, 2022 | 39 mins 41 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon
Today, Pastor Chip preaches on the power of the name of Jesus, and how our life as a Christian is worked out because Christ has made us alive. Religion is doing, but the gospel is living in Christ, it’s not about what you do, it’s about why you do what you do. We see throughout scripture that salvation is found only in Christ, and there is no other name given to us where we can be saved. This hope of glory is Christ in you, not Christ and you. Billy Graham puts it this way – “Being a Christian in more that just an instantaneous conversion – it is a daily process whereby you grow to be more like Christ.” We are also to stand on the truth of the Gospel and proclaim the name of Jesus, because there is no other name above Him.
Are you continuing to grow more like Christ? Are you connected with Jesus? Or has your faith not moved more than just that instantaneous conversion? We encourage you to find a community of believers who can hold you accountable and walk with you in the process of growing more like Christ. One of the best ways to find this community is to join a LifeGroup, where people in the same stage of life as you can do just that – encourage and grow together in faith. The Sermon on the Mount | Do Not Worry
Episode | June 27th, 2021 | 41 mins 34 secs
baptist, bible, church, preaching, scripture, sermon
As Christians, Jesus calls us in Matthew 6:25 to not worry about life. This at first, might seem like a platitude, but there are some spiritual implications involved when we worry. Pastor Chip explores Jesus’ words in the sermon on the mount regarding our circumstances and how we should control our thoughts, actions, and feelings. Concern is when we are in control of our thoughts and worrying is when the circumstances we are in control our thoughts. This may seem a subtle difference, but we learn that this shows distrust in the promises and power of God to be in control of our life.

Shipwrecks In The Shallows
Episode | May 2nd, 2021 | 36 mins 6 secs
baptist, bible, church, elijah, faith in jesus, gods promise, lasting faith, preaching, promised, promises, salvation, scripture, sermon, true faith, worship
Pastor Chip picks up the story of Elijah after the great showdown on the mountain, when God showed His power. Elijah’s life is threatened by one of Jezebel’s messengers, and Elijah becomes afraid and runs away to hide and even asks God to end his life. We see how a strong faith can be shipwrecked by not relying on God.
