The Bible Doesn't Say That | God Helps Those Who Help Themselves

"I thank you that I'm not like the rest of these people."

Now before you start judging, you've probably said this before, at least in your mind. Satan wants us to believe that our spiritual transformation and our faith walk are more dependent upon us and our behavior rather than completely on God's mercy. The other side of the coin is the desperation that we fall in when we don't meet the mark. As we dig deeper, we see both sides of pride and desperation in the scripture, and we learn that Christ's completed work on the cross abolishes both these viewpoints.
