About this Episode

In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus instructs us not to store up treasures on earth, but to store them in heaven, where they can’t be destroyed or stolen. What does this passage mean, and how do we store treasures in heaven? Pastor Matt takes us further in the sermon on the mount, where we explore Jesus’ words about what we value and our foundational choices as we live kingdom lives. The things that we adore in our hearts are what we treasure, and its an indication of what we value above our relationship with God.

We also see in this bible study that our eye is the window to the soul, and its also the window between the internal and external life. When we choose God over our possessions, then God is our master, not the things we want, because the issue is not what we have, but what and who controls us. If we treasure earthly possessions, then they possess us, and God is not the King of our hearts.

This may seem like a slant on wealth, but it isn’t. Being rich is not a sin, it’s letting the love of our earthly treasures take place in our lives over God that is a sin. What treasures are you storing up here on earth that are possessing and controlling you? If you want to take the next step and ask God for forgiveness and to change your heart, then great!
