Co-Host of Burnt Hickory | Sermons
Matt Petty has been leading church ministries since 1997 and has seen thousands of students and adults give their lives to Jesus and begin to serve God. Matt joined the Pastoral team of Burnt Hickory in July of 2001 as the Student Pastor.
For 18 years Matt has given leadership to the RADIATE students and staff team that walks with middle school, high school, and college-aged students here at Burnt Hickory. Matt has been a key leader in student ministry here in this community as well as in the state of Georgia and nation. His love of the next generation has been on display consistently within and outside the walls of Burnt Hickory.
Matt is a native of Cobb county, and one of his desires as Senior Pastor is to see all people of his home in West Cobb and Paulding County know Jesus, serve Jesus, and for the church to be a place of love and healing that Burnt Hickory has been since its beginning.
Matt is married to his college love, Melissa, and has two boys Blake and Dalton. If not doing ministry at BHBC, you can usually find the Petty family on a sports field somewhere in Georgia or enjoying all things outdoors. Matt has a Bachelor's Degree from the University of West Georgia in Business Finance, and Masters from Liberty University in Theology.

Just Say Yes To God

You are not Defined by Your Past

Today we look at Moses and see that God was not done with him, and that every person that is greatly used by God has had an encounter when they have had to listen to God. God speaks when we are humble and ready to listen to Him, and one simple word from God can literally change our whole life. As we listen and begin to trust God, we see that God can ensure our future no matter what our past looks like.

We need to seek through prayer the fullness of God’s power and love and pray with great expectations for what He has and is doing. The passage ends with the benediction: now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever.

Together | In Him & For Him | From Death to Life

This week, we continue our Ephesians sermon series, called Together in Him and for Him, by looking at the second chapter the Apostle Paul writes to the church in Ephesus. We learn that while sin is an action we commit, it is also a condition that we are born into. When we live like we are the God of our life, we replace living for God's glory inside His authority with living for our own glory by following our sinful desires. From this passage, we find that the four key elements of our salvation are the foundation of our salvation (grace) , the means of our salvation (faith), the effect of our salvation (good works), and the promise of our salvation (whatever God starts, He finishes). Faith is not a religious feeling; it is a belief that Jesus has done it all, it is all finished, and that salvation happens just like He said it would.
